Duran Duran and The Lumineers will play Tinderbox

The pop legends and popular folk musicians are accompanied by the rockers in Wolfmother and Rick Astley himself

For the second year in a row, Tusindårsskoven can present legends on stage. In 2018, Depeche Mode spellbinded the audience, and this year, Duran Duran gets the honors. Both bands have dominated the charts worldwide, and besides nationality and an impressive list of hits, both bands are also members of the exclusive club of acts that have sold more than 100 million albums.

Duran Duran‘s music videos were groundbreaking in the 80’s and iconic today, and most recently they released the acclaimed album “Paper Gods”, in which both Janelle Monáe and Jonas Bjerre from Mew participated. They are the world’s largest pop band, the legends behind “Rio”, “Girls On Film” and “Ordinary World”, and when Duran Duran visited NorthSide in 2016, there five stars were given from both BT and GAFFA. Now the legendary band returns to Denmark and come with a guarantee to give a terrific concert in Tusindårsskoven.

The American folk band The Lumineers broke through with a bang in 2012 with the giant hit “Ho Hey”, which invaded hit lists worldwide and was proclaimed P3’s Uundgåelige. Both the debut album, “The Lumineers” and the album “Cleopatra” have sold millions worldwide, and songs such as “Stubborn Love” and “Ophelia” have hit home with fans who love their modern version of classic American folk music. Therefore, a comparison with Mumford & Sons is obvious, even though The Lumineers have real New Jersey under their fingers and long ago surpassed the English in streams on Spotify. At their concerts the band combines both the heartfelt and heartbreaking with the festive and popular, giving a fascinating concert experience which GAFFA gave five stars when the band visited Store Vega in 2016.

Wolfmother got a gold record in the US and three times platinum in the band’s home country, as the Australian band broke through with their debut record. The single “Woman” won a Grammy for “Best Hard Rock Performance”, so it was no wonder that Rolling Stone Magazine called “Wolfmother” one of this year’s best albums. Eleven years later, Wolfmother released their latest album – a strong release that shows that the band never stopped writing captivating and fierce rock songs. With “Victorious” band leader Andrew Stockdale once again released an album that is edgy, ingenious, uncompromising and ranks among the band’s best. In Denmark, GAFFA has given the band five stars for their last two concerts, emphasizing Wolfmother’s ability to always deliver a round of sweaty retro rock.

Before Rick Astley became an internet phenomenon and Rickrolling had secured more than 500 million plays of the mega hit “Never Gonna Give You Up”, the English singer was a common pop star who had sold more than 40 million records worldwide and ranked number one on the hit lists in 25 countries. In other words, Rick Astley was already a phenomenon before becoming an internet phenomenon. The song is on the debut album “Whenever You Need Somebody”, which contains the hit of the same name, “When I Fall in Love” and “Together Forever”. The hit hour continued until 1993 with “She Wants to Dance with Me”, “Take Me To Your Heart”, “Hold Me in Your Arms”, “Cry for Help”, “Move Right Out” and “Hopelessly,” after which Rick Astley made a surprising decision and retired at just 27. However, he came back in 2001 and has since been touring and publishing albums on a regular basis. In 2016, Rick Astley chose to celebrate his 50th birthday with the album “50”, which ranked one in England and provided him with a platinum record. Last year came “Beautiful Life”, and this summer you can experience the million-selling phenomenon on Tinderbox for the first time.

Guitar-based songwriting and hip-hop-inspired production have ensured Dermot Kennedy millions of streams for songs such as “After Rain”, “A Closeness”, “Power Over Me” and “Glory”. He has also become a supporting act for Tinderbox-current Lana Del Rey and sold out a solo tour in the USA. So the Irish songwriter has, in a very short time, taken an impressive position in the music industry.

Danish songwriting is also strongly represented in this announcement with both Phlake and Peter Sommer & Tiggerne. Since 2015, Phlake has developed into a hugely popular name, which gave a terrific concert at Tinderbox two years ago. Since then, the duo has released the album “Weird Invitations” with hits such as “Ouch”, “Rascal” and “Chunks”, so the band comes well prepared with lots of new hits for the guests at Tinderbox 2019. Most recently published by Peter Sommer, “Elskede At Drømme, Drømmer Om At Elske”, was hailed by reviewers, who subsequently nominated the album for no less than five Steppeulven awards. To date, Peter Sommer has only appeared once at Tinderbox – and it was as part of De Eneste To. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that we can welcome the Prince of Skanderborg, who brings along his loyal band Tiggerne.

Magicbox gets three new acts in this round, and with the addition of Martin Jensen a Danish superstar will appear on stage. “Miracles” has been P3’s Uundgåelige, and “Solo Dance” has more than half a billion streams on Spotify. He has also received platinum records abroad for “All I Wanna Do”, and now the Danish success story is added to the line-up in Odense. The Dane is joined by Lost Frequencies, who is the man behind “Are You With Me”, “Crazy” and “Reality” who together with a large number of other house tracks have more than one billion streams on Spotify. The last artists are Australian duo Nervo, who have written songs for Avicii, Ke$ha, Kylie Minogue and David Guetta, who all collaborated with them on the Grammy-winning song “When Love Takes Over”. The Australian sisters, however, have also performed under their individual names at festivals such as Tomorrowland, Lollapalooza, and Creamfields, providing them with a 16th place at the DJ Mag Top 100.

This brings a total of 10 new exciting acts to Tinderbox 2019, and so the line-up now looks as follows: A$AP Rocky, Benal, Billie Eilish, The Chainsmokers, Dermot Kennedy, Diplo, Dropkick Murphys, Duran Duran, Dzeko, EDX, Faustix , Gnags, Greta Van Fleet, LOC, Lana Del Rey, Lil Uzi Vert, Lost Frequencies, Loud Luxury, The Lumineers, Lydmor, Macklemore, Martin Jensen, The Minds of 99, Nervo, Peter Sommer & Tiggerne, Phlake, Rick Astley, Sheryl Crow, Sigrid, Skunk Anansie, Suspekt, Swedish House Mafia and Wolfmother.

Tinderbox 2019 will be held at Tusindårsskoven in Odense in the days 27-29. June 2019, and tickets can be purchased here.
