The Brand New Heavies
Think the dance floor can keep up? Put your moves to the test with The Brand New Heavies
- Friday
The Brand New Heavies are the very embodiment of the British acid jazz wave of the 1990s—a band that, for many, is still closely tied to a very specific moment in music history. They helped define an era in which funk, soul, jazz, and pop merged into a warm, groovy soundtrack that still evokes memories of packed dance floors and sweaty nights at the club.
The band broke through in the early ’90s with their self-titled debut album and quickly cemented their status with releases such as Heavy Rhyme Experience and Brother Sister. Songs like “Midnight At The Oasis,” “Never Stop,” and “You Are the Universe” became the soundtrack to an entire generation—and today stand as classics from a time when music was both sophisticated and laid-back, yet irresistibly danceable.
The Brand New Heavies were part of the same wave as Jamiroquai (also on the TB26 lineup) and Incognito, but their sound always had a particular focus on organic interplay and strong vocals. They consistently worked with live instruments, heavy grooves, and clear melodies, giving their music a warmth and authenticity that still holds up today.
When The Brand New Heavies take the stage in Tusindårsskoven this summer, it’s very much about recognition and togetherness. It will be a show filled with songs most people already know, carried by a sense of nostalgia—but also by a band that still plays with confidence, joy, and ease.
