Dogstar is back – reunited in a musical comeback where friendship, experience, and pure joy of playing blend into a soundscape that looks both backward and forward.
After nearly two decades on pause, the trio – Keanu Reeves on bass, Robert Mailhouse on drums, and Bret Domrose up front – have found a new voice on their 2023 comeback album Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees.
The band originally formed in the ’90s, but as they’ve said themselves, they didn’t quite receive the welcome they’d hoped for. They found themselves making music that didn’t fit the decade: “Looking back, it’s almost like we started a seventies band that somehow got lost in the nineties.” That mismatch led to a hiatus from 2002 to 2023.
Dogstar’s music strikes a nostalgic chord, echoing the melodic rock of the early 2000s. Yet there’s a fresh, contemporary clarity in their sound – more grounded in production, more confident in expression. You can feel that Dogstar has found a new calm in their musical identity.
With strong songs and a sound that bridges past and present, we can’t wait to experience Dogstar live at Tinderbox 2026.
