Reyna Tropical turns up the heat at Tinderbox.

Reyna Tropical takes you on a journey through a multitude of genres, with the word “tropical” serving as the unifying thread in their soundscape.

The group originally began as a duo in 2016. Fabi Reyna and Nectali “Sumo” Diaz were both born in Mexico but raised in the USA, bonding over their shared experiences of growing up in America with mixed cultural backgrounds.

In 2022, tragedy struck when Diaz passed away, leaving Fabi Reyna to carry on alone. Through her grief, she found the strength to continue and create the debut album Malegría as a tribute to her and Diaz’s original mission of creating a musical platform that captures both the joy and injustice that coexist in the realm of queer love and Afro-Mexican culture.

The album offers a modern musical universe pulsating with life, featuring Congolese rhythms, Peruvian chicha, and Mexican zapateado – a festive celebration of queer love and feminine sensuality.

Fabi Reyna is a creative powerhouse who, before forming Reyna Tropical, founded She Shreds Media, performed as a DJ and producer, and played guitar for artists such as R&B singer Raveena and rock band Sleater-Kinney. Today, she also runs “Tropical Collective” – a community of fans, friends, DJs, producers, and musicians working together to elevate the culture of the tropical diaspora.

We can’t wait to experience Reyna Tropical at Tinderbox this summer.
